Governing Board Responsibilities in Action
Many of you may be curious about the process that ultimately resulted in Pastors Ivan and Elvera Blake accepting the call to Minnetonka. While the Conference office played a key role, there is another group that played an important part within the Minnetonka Church. That group is known as the Governing Board.
The board met with other leaders of the church to summarize some of the qualities a Pastor at Minnetonka should possess. This allowed the Conference office to know what Pastors to target in order to fill the vacancy. The board reviewed incoming resumes, and set up interviews with interested candidates. The candidates were also given packages that gave them a “picture” of the Minnetonka church (membership, school operations, goals and plans, etc.). The board wanted to be certain that the candidates would not only be a good “fit” for Minnetonka, but that we would also be a good fit for them.
After careful deliberation and much prayer, the board recommended that a call be offered to the Blakes. Happily, they accepted, and are now part of our church family.
This is just one of the responsibilities of the Governing Board. Other aspects will be covered in future articles. In short, the Governing Board helps to free up the pastoral staff to devote time to other priorities, while insuring that the operations of the Church are functioning properly and within financial constraints.
There are nine Governing Board members plus the senior pastor. Currently the Governing Board consists of: David Land, David Briscoe, Rachelle Ellis, Dan Jensen, Troy Stephenson, Michael Zane, Tami Bieber, John Nicholson, and Jared London. Meetings are held once a month (more often if necessary). If you have any concerns or suggestions about Church operations, feel free to bring them to one of the member’s attention.
