Mrs. Ferguson’s second grade class are world travelers! Already this year they have “visited” Antarctica and Africa. Their eyes sparkled as they boarded the “airplane” (the teachers’ workroom) and headed to their destinations. Students enjoyed the “in-flight movie” as they consumed pretzels and juice.
While in Antarctica they raced to the pole, following the trails left by Robert Scott and Ronald Admundsen. One group made it, but the other “died” on the way, as they re-enacted history. They recorded daily temperatures in a couple of different areas and studied about the wildlife found there, especially penguins.
When their study in Antarctica was finished, they re-boarded the “plane” and headed to South Africa. They invited Pastor Ivan to come in and show them pictures from his homeland. The group is now busy making Zulu shields.
The rainforest in the Congo and the pyramids of Egypt are two other places in Africa they will be visiting before they head to a new destination. If you have something about these places that you would like to share with the class, please contact Mrs. Ferguson.
By the time the year is finished, their “passports” will be full of stamps and they will have a better picture of what the world is like.
This is just one example of the creative teaching that is happening at MCA. As I walk the hallways, I am energized by what is taking place. Mrs. Ashton reports that the kindergarten class will be reading shortly after Christmas. The teachers are excited about the Christmas concerts they are planning. Mr. Burton is enjoying the discussions in his sophomore Bible and looks forward to this class every day. Mr. Brodis is thrilled with the way his U.S. History class is absorbing information! The gymnastics team is heading to Southern Adventist University this week for Acrofest. Basketball season has started. Our walls are covered with art.
The teachers and students of MCA appreciate the support of the Minnetonka Church. Thank you for helping us show “Excellence in Action.”
