Results: Minnetonka Christian Academy Constituency Meeting Held Sunday, January 25, 2009

The gymnasium stage was filled with about 120 persons (about 80 members of the Minnetonka Adventist Church) on Sunday morning, January 25, 2009. The purpose was to decide which direction MCA would take in the 2009/2010 school year. Almost everyone voted to approve the following (my comments are in italics):

Resolution #1
The MCA Constituency is committed to operating MCA for the 2009/2010 school year.  To that end, the SOC is directed to implement the following:

  1. Obtain commitments from at least 100 students of their intent to attend MCA during the 2009/2010 school year by February 19. (We already have 98 students who have made their intent known).

  2. Establish a 2009/2010 fundraising campaign that will achieve $320,000 of donations.   By February 19, obtain commitments from donors to MCA that total at least $160,000 or 50% of the 2009/2010 operating deficit. (At the end of the meeting those in attendance submitted commitment sheets indicating that they will donate a little over $160,000).

  3. Establish a comprehensive operating plan, budget, and appropriate Conference debt repayment plan for 2009/2010.

If these requirements are attained by the due dates, the SOC is authorized to present this plan to the Minnesota Conference of SDA and perform other related tasks needed to achieve a successful K - 12 program for 2009/2010.

If these requirements are not attained, the MCA Constituency directs the SOC to wind down the MCA operations at the end of the 2008/2009 school year in an orderly manner, and bring a plan back to the MCA Constituency regarding debt repayment and future building/asset uses.

Resolution #2
MCA’s Operating Committee will continue to pursue strategic alternatives, and strategies supporting MCA’s growth, beyond the 2008/2009 school year, consistent with the key elements identified in the presentation to the MCA Constituency on 1/25/09.

These resolutions reflect a strong commitment of the Minnetonka Church to continue shouldering the responsibility of operating MCA as a K-12 school. We do this with full awareness of two big factors:

  1. God has wonderfully worked during the current school year to show that He blesses us when we work hard with Him; He achieves through us greater things than we expect. It seems clear that He is willing (and eager) to continue doing the same during the remainder of this school year and the future.
  2. We, the Minnetonka church family, will need to increase our support in tangible ways to strengthen our school—
SPIRITUALLY (through our prayers and communication to school leadership what our ideals for spiritual growth are),
ACADEMICALLY (The more students we enroll, the more viable advanced educational opportunities can be offered. We have top-notch teachers who can help our youth excel.),
financially (give faithfully to the fund-raising efforts for the remainder of this year--$34,000/mo needed—and add your commitment for next school year to the $160,000 already committed),
NUMERICALLY (only 29 out of a possible 159 potential students from the Minnetonka Adventist Church is currently enrolled. While we understand that special circumstances apply to some students who are attending other schools, we fully believe the majority of our children/youth would benefit more from being at MCA than anywhere else. Parents, please take another look at MCA and see if it’s time for your child/ren to receive the advantages of Adventist Christian Education. We are offering a 50% tuition discount for NEW students.),
PHYSICALLY by providing volunteer hours in the following areas: two open board positions, recruiting assistance, fundraising assistance, maintenance, and substitute teaching.

There is no limit to what God will do for our school if we allow Him to work through us. Thank you to all of you who are already doing so much to build young lives for God’s Kingdom. It’s all about Jesus and it’s all for His Kingdom.
