| We Will Tell
It is an ancient song, a song with a promise, sung by thankful people who loved their God. We only have the words, but it is the words that carry the power of Israel's resolution: “We will …tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD. We will tell of His power and the mighty miracles He did.” (Psalms 78:4)
What were these “glorious deeds” and “mighty miracles”? What follows in the Psalm is a recounting of how God led His people through the desert to a place of their own, a promised land. Then, finally, He built them a sanctuary. (Verse 69)
Today, as people who love our God, we sit together in worship. As we look around at the beautiful stained-glass windows, enjoying the light-filled spaciousness of this place of worship so often filled with singing, prayer, and messages from the Bible, we can sincerely say that God has built us a sanctuary. He used our hands, time, talent, and resources, working through human beings, as He always has. Joyfully and thankfully we celebrate the paying off of the loan.
Then, there's that resolution that Israel made "to tell the next generation." So what can we tell our "next generation"? We can make sure that our children hear all the wonderful stories of how God was involved in making this place of worship a possibility. How He blessed as so many got involved and sacrificed to keep this church functioning and focused. We will tell of His power and mighty miracles that still continue to this day as every week the hearts and minds of many people are influenced for higher and better eternal things. We will tell with thanksgiving.
