Pastor Update
As most of us are aware, Pastors Ivan and Elvera Blake have accepted an invitation to continue their ministry in North Carolina. Their work in our church will come to an end on December 31st. Our church Governing Board, Lay Pastors, and Church Staff will be meeting with Ivan and Elvera on Wednesday, December 16th, to say thank you and goodbye in a formal manner.
Our new pastor search is underway. Our church Governing Board and Church Staff make up our pastoral search committee. This committee is working with Ed Barnett, MN Conference President. This group has identified the top qualities our new pastor needs to :
- be a very spiritual person;
- be an exceptional speaker;
- have good administrative skills.
In addition to these three qualities, a very experienced pastor is preferred.
Potential pastors are being identified by Ed Barnett and our pastoral search committee. In addition, a number of potential candidates have been identified by our congregation. We are very early in the search process and expect that pastor candidates will not be interviewed until after the holidays.
We will have an interim senior pastor join us in late January. While details on this are still being worked on, we expect that Sherman McCormick will join us on a Sabbath in late January. (Specific date yet to be determined). Sherman is a retired pastor who lives in Detroit Lakes, MN. His experience as a pastor is very impressive. Please watch for more information on our interim pastor arrangements.
Please keep the following in your prayers:
1. That the Fletcher SDA, North Carolina, church and community will be blessed, as we have been, through the Blake’s ministry.
2. That our church’s pastoral search committee and Ed Barnett will follow God’s leading as we search for a pastor having the qualities we’ve identified.
3. That God will choose our next pastor and that individual will follow God’s leading to serve our Minnetonka church community.
