Youth Sabbath School

I remember in old black and white TV shows, when a child was sick, they would often be given something called Castor Oil to aid in the healing process. I’ve never had to experience Castor Oil, but from what I remember from those TV shows, I’m not missing out on much. It seemed like painful medicine.

To me there if there is one book in the New Testament that often seems like Castor Oil, it is the book of James. For some reason I’ve never liked James? Perhaps it was my rebellious teenage spirit? I think that I have often, and perhaps mistakenly, seen James as the Anti-Paul. In Acts 15 I see James as the person who fights against the “liberalism” of Paul and his ideas about eating whatever, hanging out with whoever and not requiring Judaistic ritual for the new Gentile converts. James seems to lead the conservative charge to hang onto the old and resist the new.

So when I was looking for a new and exciting Biblical study for The Filling High School class, what book do you think I choose? You guessed it—James. And you know what, I’m excited about it. In reality, of course, James is a wonderful epistle. It’s down to earth, it’s practical, it doesn’t pull punches and it forces one to reevaluate one’s life of discipleship. I like that and I’m excited to be leading a 12 week study on the book of James for our High School students.

Which brings me to my next point. The Filling. Right now we are averaging about 20-25 students a week that attend our Sabbath morning event. That is about 50% of the students who could be attending. Each week we have a lot of fun and I hope that we can continue to grow our numbers.

We have a great team of leaders (and could always use more help) in our Jr. High class and your student is truly missing out if they aren’t there. Our High School class just finished a three month study of Andy Stanley's book about seven spiritual principles that every teenager should know. It was a good study on faith, friends and wisdom.

Again, if your student is not attending these classes they are missing out. Consider coming by today.
