| Building a Stronger School Community
Recently I attended a volleyball game at the International School of Minnesota. While I was rooting our Lady Royals on, I took a look at who was in the crowd and I had to think about what I saw because it was a bit surprising. The bleachers were filled with high school teachers (4 to be exact) and many students who are usually too “cool” to come to school events. It surprised me so much because typically nobody, besides parents, go to away games, including me.
A year ago I wouldn't want to go to after school events because if I did go, nobody would be there to talk to and it would be boring. But since then I have seen something remarkable happen in the high school, teachers and students are bonding together, not just inside the classroom, but outside the classroom as well. This increased teacher involvement has had a huge effect on school spirit. Students want to hang out and see their friends play, sing, or perform after school.
Personally, I think MCA is winning more often because of the support of the bigger and more energetic crowds. More people are coming to all types of school activities this year compared to previous years. This student teacher bonding has also made people happier, which makes the days go faster, something that is always a good thing.
