Thank You for Supporting our Kids!
I’m a MCA alumnus. I attended the old Minneapolis Junior Academy on 27th and Colfax for three years. That was back in the Dark Ages. We lived out near where I-35W and I-494 meet today. There was no interstate system then. The Beltway around the cities, what is now 494 and 694, was under construction at the time. We didn’t have a church school bus to pick us up. Every morning my sister and I waited outside in the cold for the city bus to take us to school. Talk about deprived!! We didn’t even have a color TV!!
But, we did have the enthusiastic support of the entire church. I remember when the gym was added to the old school building—and all of the church turned out to celebrate and support the school. I remember Christmas programs when it would be standing room only, literally.
And that support translated, in my brain, into the realization that, as a part of the MJA student body, I was important. That made me feel good about my school and my church.
Why all this reminiscing? Only to emphasize that our physical presence at MCA’s activities is important. It makes a statement to the students when they see that what they are doing is important to us. Some of the school’s activities are entertaining: basketball games and special programs. Others are less exciting: constituency meetings.
But, I would argue that the less the entertainment factor, the more the commitment factor is demonstrated when we physically support our school by attending its activities.
I doubt that you will find our upcoming MCA Constituency meeting, on Sunday, the 28th, at 10:00 a.m. very entertaining. Few are. But, I can promise you being there will send a statement to the staff and students. I can guarantee that the decisions we make will be, if not entertaining, very important!
Thank you for being a part of Minneapolis Junior Academy when I was there. Thank you for being a part of Minnetonka Christian Academy now, when future church leaders are figuring out where they fit in God’s big scheme of things.
Thank you for supporting our kids!
